Micro-climate Example

When we started thinking of buying a piece of land to live on, we read a book that recommended walking on the land several times and camping on it before making an offer. So we did.

The evening we camped, we decided to walk up the dirt access road. About ten yards up the road, we passed through a dramatically palpable increase in heat of probably around ten degrees F. The land we wanted to buy lay down in a drainage and cooling air sinks and flows (like water) along the drainage. But above that cool layer was the warm air remaining from that summer day. So we learned that summer evenings would be cooler on our plot of land. After we bought it, we experienced that winter nights, also, would be colder. So down where we are, the temperatures are cooler and up the road they are warmer.

Which leads to these pictures. The first picture looks up the dirt road. The top, about a quarter of a mile away, is seventy feet higher than here.

The next two pictures were taken four minutes apart. They both look off to the right at the blue oak forest we live within. The oaks on top are many days ahead in leafing out. Spring comes to the top of the hill several days before descending seventy feet to the cooler bottom.

On a different note

Crowd size estimates of Trump protests in Redding – definitely MAGA country.

200 – Demonstrations during Trump’s first term.

400 – First two demonstrations at beginning of Trump’s second term.

1200 – April 5th Hands Off! rally.
