Picture of The Fit

We had our swamp cooler going on high during a heat wave last week. A swamp cooler requires some partially open windows to allow its cool air to flow through and out the house. Our living room window had been opened several inches. As I walked through the room, I glanced over at the window and saw a line of birds perched on the grapevine just outside that window. The grapevine (and its birds) was being moved about by the cool breeze coming out of the narrowly-opened window. The cool breeze ruffled their feathers.

The birds were clustered at this cool opportunity. On closer inspection, they were all bushtit fledglings – probably brothers and sisters. Almost every hot afternoon since, when I look out that window, there they are. They had found a good Fit with the world.
